Welcome

Welcome

Dear Parents & Caregivers,

Like any first - first smile, first laugh, first roll, first step, first word - your baby’s first bite is a milestone.  A milestone that, similar to other firsts, becomes ingrained in everyday life until it is simply ordinary.  So what is it about firsts?

Firsts are an opportunity to experience the miraculous in the mundane - the “extra” in the ordinary.  Your baby’s first bite is an opportunity to sink into that feeling, the inner knowing that what we put in our baby’s body (and our own) is important - vitaly so.  This first provides us with an opportunity to shift perspectives and evolve our sense of agency around intentional, more conscious eating for all of us.

In short - it’s as much about laying the groundwork for the future as it is focused on your baby’s present needs.

I invite you to take the time to PAUSE before you parent so that you have the opportunity to make choices that fit your unique family AND have confidence that the choices you make in the early stages will support what your family now and what you envision your family meals of the future to be.  Afterall, sharing a meal is about so much more -  the food on the table is just the beginning.

With  L.O.V.E.,

About this Guide

While guidance is offered as to how to select that first food (Menu Matters),  our role as parents doesn’t end there.  Guidance is also offered on the best times of day for baby’s meal & how to space new foods out so allergens or digestive sensitivities are detected (Clocks & Calendars), as well as how our expectations and facial expressions can impact our child’s experience (Social Cues).

The squares on the next page introduce us to the building blocks that support healthy habits from the first bite.  The yellow squares most directly influence the development of the digestive system and shed light on our active role as parents.  The 4 outermost squares in the corners cover topics like Readiness - whether to go for it or wait a bit; Core Connections -  how what we eat impacts how we sleep, our behavior, etc; and a handy Heads-Up section that gives you a little advance warning on changes that may be coming your way so that you have the time to respond as opposed to react.  And, of course, everything we do, we do “with L.O.V.E” which is where we’ll begin.
